Maso's for sissies...

Post by Cristiona »

Come to SANDALCORE! Fighting off the forces of evil wearing naught but a pair of sandals (and, presumably, your underwear)!

Now, of course, the game forces equipment from time to time (NCI, underwater), but aside from those points -- and of course levels 1 and 2 -- just sandals.

THRILL! as you fight foes with your bare fists!
CHILL! as you give up on fists and use spells!
BEG FOR MERCY! as foes beat the ever-loving crap out of you since you have no armor!

So strap on your sandals, hope in your favorite vehicle, hire some poor sucker to help out, and charge forth into Sandalcore!

Or, be a crazy sonofabitch and do it in Maso. IF YOU DARE!

Too bad there's no way to verify, or I'd start another contest just to piss people off.

Max Velocipede - 809 minutes
Stone Armor - 968.5 minutes [shake off]
Fire Shield - 2425.5 minutes [shake off]
Air Shield - 8429 minutes [shake off]

Oddly, the Mick wasn't too tough. Despite having enough going on to get his coin and despite having a rather pathetic defense, he didn't hit that hard; just 24+20 (psychic). Then I shoved some TNT down his throat and that was that.

Vehicles used: command chopper, VHF-1 Fighter, motorcycle (very briefly)
Sidekicks used: Smart Alec Kid, Grumpy Smuggler
Attacks used: Mostly lightning bolt, occasional combat items for finishers

Droogcore would be tough, as the moped doesn't let you get to Hyde, or the Desert.
Then again, I'm not sure if the moped is necessary for the costume, or just the badge.

Only problem with droogcore is the level requirement for the whole nine yards and boots. And the fact that it would require pulls for the pajamas.

And Sandomasocore is on! Nommy and I are doing a sandlecore run in maso. At least, we're starting to do them. This may be a bit stupid and unworkable:
Trashed Plowman wrote:Your opponent attacks ... Your opponent has a critical hit! He hits for 63 damage. He cleans your clock with that hit.
My Character Sheet wrote:Offensive power 1
Defensive power: 1
And it's only gonna get worse. Will we ever manage to defeat John Steele? Will the Troutmaster eat us for lunch even at level 11? Will we get those new sandals from the protest?

Will we ever leave Somerset without getting our asses kicked? Will we finish these runs before Christmas?

Find out! Or better yet, join in the fun!

I imagine a team of women fighting crime in their underwear and sandals. I'm chuckling and wondering if Fox will pick up the idea for next season.

Thanks Nommy! Ironically I don't think I'll be able to survive in the zone I need to go to for the sandals - but that's ok, sandal-free sandalcore is even more... core-y.

Cristiona's right! I'm building up to one of those 9-month retcons where instead of fighting an endboss, it just forces its way out of your body through the nearest orifice.

Finally! Amusingly, my losses gave me concussed, which gave me enough effects to get a blue chip as well. Anyway:

Level 13 Naturalist Hero

Strength: 176 (140)
Intellect: 53 (46)
Reflexes: 63

To-hit ability: 143
Dodge ability: 117
Offensive power 31
Defensive power: 34

Hit Points/Max: 78/200
Power Points/Max: 54/104

XP: 67,331 Chips: 3,106

Mango Madness - (consumed in final battle)
Living Penlights - 16 minutes
Got Your Tacky On - 19.5 minutes
Ant's Strength - 22.5 minutes [shake off]
Feeling Your Oats - 46 minutes
Concussed - 68.5 minutes

Time Played This Run: 5d 5h 2m 48s
Days This Run: 33

The Mick was a real jerk to me. He kept dodging my attacks. The jerk. Still, I eventually kicked in his head with my besandaled foot.

Vehicles used: ambulance (until I maxed Starfish), Lexura, motorcycle (very briefly), Asp Evader (as bosses, mostly)
Sidekicks used: Freelance Teenager, International Agent, Smuggler, Wolf (for NCI)
Attacks used: little bit of everything, but a lot of Trample.

I spent a lot of time resting. With no heal skill, and no way to boost my defense (like Air Shield), I got my ass kicked a lot. Don't let the number up top fool you; I spent most of this run with an offense of 1 and a defense of 5.

Nommy and I both used webbed sands, which helped a lot. I waited until he didn't hit my the first round (winning initiative was a joke, but he missed once) and then I threw about 6 of them at him.

OMG HE'S DOWN!

Level 12 Gadgeteer Hero

Strength: 47 (49)
Intellect: 43
Reflexes: 109 (94)

To-hit ability: 140
Dodge ability: 130
Offensive power 62
Defensive power: 35

Hit Points/Max: 46/142
Power Points/Max: 0/108

XP: 56,813 Chips: 1,789

Active Effects
Upgrade Weapons: Lethalized - 3 minutes [shake off]
Concussed - 20 minutes
Catalyzing Titanium - 21.5 minutes
Internal Injuries - 90.5 minutes
(d'oh - I'd gone into the Mick fight without Upgrade Armor and not noticed. No mango madness or anything because this fight wasn't a serious attempt, I thought he'd kill me in 2 hits as usual)

Time Played This Run: 5d 4h 3m 30s
Days This Run: 33

The winning Mick fight, he did the 96 damage at the beginning then didn't hit again. I gave him 16 stun gases or so then ran out of MP, threw a Webbed Sand, then just hit until it was over!

Vehicles used: Lexura (then I thought, why bother when I rest every 2nd turn), Asp Evader, tri-cycle (once I hit 12 and could catalyze).
Sidekicks used: Jujitsu expert, Electrical "engineer" (did way more damage than me so really helped).
Attacks used: Stun Gas and lots of it - 10 shots per fight for the top 2 floors of NCI live, then normal attack. Upgrade Weapons: Lethalized made a lot of difference.

I noticed I was hitting the Mick for 10 times the damage I was hitting normal enemies for, seemed to be more than I'd hit him for when all suited and booted and buffed in a normal run. Also noticed wandering (or static? never sure which are which) villains could only do 1 or 2 points of damage when normally they're very hefty. They scale off Offence/Defence maybe?

I noticed that too. I had been worried they'd screw me up when I turned them on, but they weren't that tough.
