Creative player ideas for in-game items, zones, etc.

Talk about the game. What game? The game with the power? What power? The power of ... aw, skip it.

Absolutely. There's a whole thread on it somewhere. It's pretty dead.

I just spent a couple weeks in the City of Lost Robots, getting mangled data plates to churn code out of. As a result, I have a bunch of electronic computer components I really have no use for. That got me thinking... there are only two types of computers that can be built anyway.

But then, what other computers could there be? Some MacGuyvered thing made out of stuff like straw and thumbtacks that would be more or less a novelty item? Eh. Following modern trends, how about a computer with a quattuordeca-core processor that can do things quickly but has to occasionally spend time getting all of its functions synched up, or occasionally produces undesirable results (eg it might take 20 minutes to decrypt a mangled data plate, or, it it malfunctions, you might end up with an incredibly mangled data plate). Or a ridiculously overclocked computer that works very well for a certain length of time before crashing.

And the idea of a steam-powered computer makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Or using fiendish skulls, red teeth, and stuff like that to make a mystical or alchemical computer equivalent that would use totems or powders or something instead of running software.

Not unless everyone is okay with me taking a month off to program the logic for determining whether you've won or lost. That's a pretty complicated set of win/loss conditions, and in the end I'd be spending a ton of time to reproduce what you can get from thousands of other games, both online and off.

Running with CTID's idea, a single-use powerful computer program would be interesting.

Quite frankly, very very broken. Market and gameplay wise.

I don't think it is that bad of an idea, and since it is an ultra rare, it isn't like someone is just gonna find a bunch of them and zip past Cris... I really don't see how it is "broken".
But EVENTUALLY, someone can. That is looking into the future a bit far, but ultra rares aren't as hard to collect in TH as in KoL. This would also allow (albeit expensively) for very insane stunts and a very extreme power creep. The consumers of the market would cry, too.

You could just amass a ton of Coping with Failure discs for the same effect. :P

I could see a rare disc that gives you 1 level, up to some XP max, at which point it caps out. Useful as a "lucky break" at low levels in an ascension context, but not worth the money at low level in a powerleveling context, and a good means of distributing some wealth.

Leaderboard/badge idea

Post by Hannahmaus »

Seeing as the monsters in Sector 7 Gamma scale the more you kill, with no cap, I was thinking it could be nifty to have some sort of Sector 7G leaderboard.

You could get to the top of it by raising the S7G monster level higher than anyone else. Perhaps there could be a badge for reaching for a certain ML there. Maybe there already is and no one's reached it yet...

3009 XP was the last amount I got for killing a S7G critter...

Multi-use on Fiendish Skulls. Make it take... oh, I dunno... 150 or 200, and you can build a Throne of Skulls (Skone of Thrulls?). It doesn't even have to do anything aside from sit there and be awesome.

2 Caff rating for 50 minutes. Trivially better than Energy Drinks. Should drop approximately 1 every 50 advs (i.e., takes at least two days, more likely three to farm a day's worth)

In both cases, there will never be enough to go around, which is central to the design principle.

*Energy Drinks are about the only things that fit here, and without sustained growth of the player base they're essentially meaningless because there basically aren't any left...
If you make something better than the best item... then you change the dynamic of turns/time in the whole game.

Also.... there are still lots of energy drinks out there - I know, I buy more of them from players every week.

At the risk of coming off like a total bitch (which isn't my intention here), how about some examples?

Write up a consumable (drink, companion, restorative, something else) that does what you would like. Write up a couple. Say where you'd like them to drop. Give us some flavor text. We're still small enough that specific examples have a chance of being incorporated into the game.

And, for what it's worth, we know that there's equipment and item gaps. Just takes time to fill them in along with everything else that needs to be done.

Socket, your points are definitely noted. It's been difficult to dream up consumables that are worth spending money on. I'd probably be inclined to aim for a farmable that's better than Mr. Tea but worse than Bray, rather than slightly better than Bray, but otherwise I think your point is good. It's been something I've been thinking about for a while.

Although it's a way off, I always intended that with retcon/ascension you'd be able to reset your VR counters and get more Bray/Scalpel. That's still not enough for everyone, but it's far more than the game has had lately, I'm sure.

Other sidekicks? Specifically farmable, class-specific (in terms of manufacturing) ones? I dig it. Dunno if I'll do it soon, but I like it. I've got a shortage of class-specific stuff, mostly because it's 4x the effort to do one thing for everyone, but I'd like to add some of that stuff.

Cris posted while I was typing, but her point is good: if you've got suggestions for something that would fit the bill (consumable, useful, interesting, worth spending chips on) I'm open to suggestions. Black market needs a few more items, I just haven't been able to think them up.

The black market will need some...extra dealers, if you know what I mean.

It should have some weapons, maybe. The black market is big on weapons.
