Relative to the implementation, put a field of each damage type to the encounter table, inestead of doing complex manouvers to a single field..:P I'm not sure I follow this bit, or you may be making assumptions about how damage works that aren't true. Currently foes have attack and defense power, j...

Actually, I haven't decided yet. It's gonna be one of three things. 1) like you suggest (perhaps with a cap short of 100%) 2) the "element" part will only be some fraction of the damage. Perhaps 50%. So 100% fire resistance really means you take 50% of the damage--the physical half. Or the...

So if it's just a dream, does that mean you wouldn't keep any stuff from ascension to ascension? Next I suppose we'll have to postulate some sort of "dream catcher" that snags money and items right out of your dreams and deposits them into your "real" life, which is of course its...

Re: Ascension? ...or what?

You know, I was thinking about it. Of course, both the term and the concept are too KoLish. Er, if by KoL-ish you mean "completely stolen from Nethack." Well, maybe not the precise mechanism, but certainly the name and general concept. Long term, I probably won't call it ascension. But wh...

Yeah, sorry, that's the one drawback of the system at the moment. Once we've got ascension going, you'll have plenty of opportunities for all variety of rewards there. But in the immediate future I didn't want people to be able to get all the other rewards repeatedly, nor do I want that to be an opt...

I do consider having a healthy chat important to the game, and I really would like to have it working better -- most especially the /who command. Lyrics: I Wanna Fall in Love with Her

While I'm digging up old creative pieces, here's another one that I really dig. I should note that I have absolutely zero musical talent, but occasionally I'll end up writing what could be used as song lyrics. I like this one because there's something darkly humorous, and perhaps ironic, about a you...

Bear Country

I was reminded last night of a trek I took out to Glacier National Park, one of the loveliest places I've ever seen. While I was there I wrote this fun piece, about my friends and I getting eaten by a bear. I laugh every time I remember it. Bear Country (8-16-01) By the ember's dying light, three ca...

Man, that's a tough one to answer. There's definitely a lot of appeal to having the players really feel like they get to be a part of the world, up to and including affecting what's in it and perhaps how it works. There's also an equal appeal to making sure that the game maintains standards of quali...

I also do agree that the color coding could be a little clearer, but I don't want to make it too rainbow-y, and I've still probably got to add a couple more types of damage (had a few good ideas just recently -- acid damage and sonic damage).
