I'm a Psion. I don't really enjoy reliance on items, which leaves out Gadgeteer... and, going back to City of Heroes and my old Champions play, Mind Control and Mental Illusions were my favorite powers. So, Psion won out over Elemental and Naturalist.

The only news I can share about the downtime is that it's up and running.

ETA: Yes, I forgot to say it, but yay for the new servers and thanks for them. It's nice not seeing the red screen of death all the time.

I'm not exactly playing the game optimally or anything, but at level 8 or 9 (I think, the game's down right now) I've always had the chips to pay for training before I leveled. Level 5/6 wasn't any more of a challenge than any other level.

So, there's another data point.
