VHF-1 Fighter
VHF-1 Exosuit

Rockin'.

The Exosuit could use a boost though. For taking up two slots, well, yeah.

Hey, Ryme, is it possible to auto-generate these threads? Just wonderin'.

Eh. Its power is pretty darn impressive.

With our version of php? Hee...

Edit: However, it seems the suit's power is the same as the Lab Suit and less than the Smart Suit.

I think the exosuit is a great addition. It is really great if your one of those silly transmogrifying types. Now they can wear a shirt that gives them -10 secs per turn from the very beginning of adventuring.
the xentrium breastplate is not an option for transmogrifyers because of the high lvl requirement. So even though the dreampants cannot be worn it gives a great power increase for tranmogrifyers. Not to mention the + 15 str and + 20 def.
For people who do not transmogrify this item is accually a decrease in power since the xentrium breastplate and the dreampants combine to 100 power. and the suit only gives 90. But ofcourse there still is the str and def bonus. So we'll have to see how that balances out.
I don't know what to think of the jet yet. It seems like it is a fun new thingy, but it is not meant as the main focus of this iotm I think. Just a little extra.

Since it comes up a lot: the defense bonus is basically extra power, just tacked on in a different way. So 90 power + 20 defense = 110 power. I've been trying (though not doing particularly well) to standardize the power of many of the items of the month at one baseline, and use this to denote an item that's extra strong.

Also had a couple of reports that the airstrike ability disappears from the items list sometimes, and I'll look into that. My guess is it's not carrying over either when someone goes up a level, or when someone exchanges other equipment, so I'll check there tonight.

Did you level up at all last night? If not, that helps me narrow it down a bit.

That's a good thing: Strategic choices add depth to the game. ;)

Maybe that plus the already +15. I think in an acsension(or retcon/what ever the final name is) enviroment the +15 would be more useful at lower levels.

Seems like this item sucks right now but has a future of blossoming into something good if and when the game develops

The fighter jet has potential if there's ever any boss monsters in the game that you might struggle with

On the suit side of things, that's where the suckiness comes in. Perhaps if the numbers on it were tweaked or threw in some percent signs it would be a whole lot better and definitely something to strive for

Though all that's out the window if the game doesn't progress in developing new content (HINT HINT!)

---

Ryme says: I don't know what the original post said, but that was some overzealous modding, so the remaining junk has been deleted. What's here now is moderately useful, though, assuming it at least somewhat reflects the original intent. Change it back if ya want, clarify if you need to.

Smoot says: Changed it to what it originally said somewhat to an extent. I didn't see what exactly it was changed to but seriously folks, nobody in their right mind uses "That would be Boss" to describe something.

Smoot - For the higher levels I would agree with you. But I will repeat myself. For people who transmogrify it is simply awesome.

Looks nifty, as there wasn't any colorful transportation until this arrived. But It's not good to make any Iotm too powerful, it looks pretty well balanced to me, but i suppose plus 15% strength wouldn't hurt. *hint*

I completely agree, having to make choices like that is good for an interesting, strategic game, but at the same time, the idea of buying an item that makes me stop using the item I'm still enjoying from last month doesn't sit well with me.
Granted, this says nothing of the item itself and it's usefulness, but I'd just feel like I'd need to put the crazy rainbow pants away for awhile to give this item a fair test run to see how I'm going to use it, and I don't wanna do that. I just got these pants! You know?
It just kills my enthusiasm for the item, I suppose. Which again, has nothing to do with how the item affects gameplay, is useful, etc. Seeing as how I bought said rainbow pants on the sole criteria that they were crazy rainbow pants and I like the idea of wearing crazy rainbow pants, that kinda thing matters to me, though. Any in-game benefits they give me didn't really affect my decision TOO much in the end, it's more how I feel about it or, alternatively, how it's specific benefits make me feel. I'm not optimal and I'm never going to be, you know? I'm in it for the fun. I'm not done having fun with the dreampants yet, and so the idea of getting an item that stops me from using it to get it's full benefit is a downer.
Then again, I suppose the fact that I could just use it as a vehicle and still use my pants is a good reason why I shouldn't complain or whatever. But then I don't have the extra regen for throwing buffs at people that the Lexura gives me, so...

Yeah, this was really stream of consciousness rambling, sorry about that. I guess I feel there should have been more buffer before another item came out that uses that pants slot in some capacity. I guess that's what I'm trying to say. Yeah.

I see where your going Poetfox, and the fact that when you put the suit on, in the pants slot, it just has text. Now, if There was an actual image...maybe...

Fixed the bug were leveling up caused the airstrike not to work. It probably also caused the regeneration not to work properly, either, but that should also be fixed.

This item raises a question...

Can a character without Passable Pilot use the fighter? Or, for that matter, the jetpack?

I believe I was able to use the jet pack without it (though that was awhile ago...) as I didn't start working on merits till after I'd built one, and I hadn't bothered with the VR center till then...

As to this months IotM, while it seems kind of unfair to compare the exo-suit to the technicolor pants (as the suit is only half the item) I find the pants much more useful for higher level content, where as the suit seems more fit for lower levels since it has a static benefit instead of one tied to your level.

Indeed, your analysis not wrong at all. That's exactly what I'm doing as well.

An IotM that requires a skill? Huh.

You only need to have Passable Pilot for insurance reasons for the rentals. Otherwise you are free to crash and burn using your own gear as often as you want to.

Rather depends on the bonuses you're looking for.
