Grrr... I just tried to bid on something and accidentally clicked the "buy now" button. The buy now and the bid buttons both have exactly the same style, both start with the same letter, they're fairly close to each other, there's no "are you sure?" confirmation, and there's no safe place to stash your chips to make sure you don't lose too much doing this.

I wasn't out too badly this time, but I'm personally declaring the auction house unsafe until something is changed.

Edit: Oh, yeah, and I love this game! :D

Just be careful, and pay attention to what you're doing.

I lost 90,000,000 in an MMG because I put an extra zero.

But just think what you could have won! :)

All I got was a lousy overpriced tacky grip...

Oh well, I suppose that in a text-based MMORPG, we should be a little more careful about reading the, you know, text. I do wish there was a closet for storing chips, though.

Closet-type process has been discussed. Ryme doesn't seem to be into the idea much. A lot more coding for that to happen.

I think I can redo the buy-it-now button as a graphical link instead of a form button, if that would help.

Also, I've been meaning to have some way of hiding your chips, both for personal modesty, and for defensive measures like this. I don't think you should have to defensively hide them, but some people seem to like it, and I'm all about letting you go out of the way if you want to. "Chip stacks" and "dense chips stacks" anyone?

I'm still a little confused how the Bid and Buy it Now buttons get mixed up. There's a whole column between them, and the Bid button directly touches the "type your bid here" form field. You'd have to click on the text field, type, and then mouse away from the most convenient button to go over to a button farther away to do the wrong thing. This isn't the first time it's happened, though, so I'll take it seriously. It just confuses me.

Thanks for the replies!

In answer to the "how it happens" question... well, I don't know if my experience is typical, or if it makes sense, but I'll give it a shot.

When I click in the field to type in the price I want to bid, I click on the left side of the text box, where the text cursor will go. So my mouse at that point is about halfway between the two buttons, the Bid button being to the right of the text box. Then before I bid I look back to the left to see if I'm on the offer with the correct current price, which drags my whole focus back to the left. I think my mouse cursor is probably tracking to the left at that point as well. So I end up right about hovering over a button that I think is the correct one, if I don't pay too close attention. Does that make sense?

For me, I'm not always sober when I play this game, and I'm prone to hasty clicking and typos. The auction house is always a dangerous place for me.

i've definitely done this myself. i accidentally bought a silver star for about 115k with the buy it now instead of hitting the button to enter my bid. its not that the system is confusing in any way, its just that i wasn't exactly paying too much attention to what i was hitting. i think it would be nice to just have a little box to check to confirm that you want to buy the item, kind of like the kol MMG check boxes to make sure you actually want to take the bid. so yeah, some kind of confirmation would be nice.

How about just having the option to cash in your chips at a casino building for useless legal tender?

Really, the chips *are* legal tender. I don't know where this theory came from that chips are the underground money, or some kind of substitute. In Twilight chips are the *only* form of currency. That's how pervasive the casino/gambling racket is.

Really? There's no government-sponsered money?
Jeez.
There's always the possiblity of transferring your chips into half-smalls and the like. Personally I like the idea of turning your chips into an item and being able to convert them back instead a "chip closet."

That's was my "narrative justification" for why you can't quit your job. Ahem.

Nah. "Smalls" and "Larges", obviously.

It'd be simpler with Red Chips and Blue Chips.

I second "smalls" and "larges".

Ah, that's the ticket. I just picked up three gold coins sold the right way, with a buy now price of 9000 for the three of them. Gold coins, half-smalls, or other items that have no value except for auto-sell make perfect faux currency, and we can use the auction house to pad our alternative stacks.

Back to the auction house for me!

Edit: Gah. I just realized that the seller made a mistake putting 9000 as the buy now price for 3 gold coins. Whoever did that was out 450 chips compared to autoselling. We really need number four on Ryme's priority list.

Edit again: Hooray! Thanks for the larges and smalls, Ryme! Now this place is jumping. Or it will be, once I drag everyone into chat...
