I've gotten lots of reports that work gloves aren't preventing fumbling. However, every time I test them, I can play for hundreds of turns at a time, with a dozen rounds per combat, and never fumble once.

So, either y'all are all crazy, or there's something fishy going on. So I'd like some more details.

FIRST: be aware that there are things which can make you MORE likely to fumble. Those things can balance out the gloves. So if you fumble with work gloves, the first thing you should check is to see if there's anything which might be interfering. (Hint: check your effects.)

However, I've had some reports from people swearing there's no increased fumble effect, and it still happens. So I'll need to know what you're wearing, what effects you have active, etc.

Thanks for the help.

I personally have never fumbled with mine, that I can remember.

I got one report that it was ranged weapons, but I can't manage to fumble with them.

I also got one report that mentioned using the gadgeteer skill which also balances weapons and prevents fumbles. Those folks who do fumble, are you all gadgeteers? Have you been using the gadgeteer skill that prevents fumbling? Maybe when the effect wears off it's counteracting the gloves.

What's the effect called? I'll test it tomorrow.

I play a gadgeteer and I've fumbled while wearing the gloves. However, I don't remember having fumbled even once while having both Self-Balancing active and wearing the gloves. I use an ethereal club.

Upgrade Weapons: Self Balancing.

My current buffs/debuff list. Nothing has changed with that for the last 30+ patrols save their time.

Except that, test-wise, I replaced ~800 minutes of Frickin' Sharp with an equal amount of Self-Balancing (all my PP, 144 to be exact. 18 casts worth)

Before I applied self-balancing with the work gloves on (which I've been wearing since I hit level 8), I never, ever fumbled. And that's .... well, a lot of time and patrols. I never fumbled even once, first with Sharpened and then Frickin' Sharp (+hit forever!).

But now, after my experiment? I decided that I liked the extra damage from Frickin' Sharp better than some minuscule increase in crit chance, donned my work gloves instead of the spiked ones, shrugged off Self-Balancing and re-applied a few hundred minutes of Frickin' Sharp.

Only that now I fumble.

I tried un- and re-equipping the Work Gloves, to no avail. Not enough PP to re-try casting all over the place again, but still.

The fumbles are not even particularly harmful - 5 damage / fumble - but they're happening when they shouldn't. No debuff effect going, but they happen nonetheless.

Maybe wearing work gloves and then casting Self-Balancing breaks the no-fumble mechanism?

Cornuthaum, what if you unequip and requip your weapon? Does that cure the fumbling?

I have to say, that's very strange. I personally use Self-Balancing all the time (I replaced the work gloves with the spiked ones, as you did), and I never ever fumble, whereas I would occasionally fumble with just the work gloves. Self-Balancing never lets me down. Your problem is perplexing!

I've been adventuring in the same area for a while now. A good week at least. Wearing the work gloves, not fumbling. I had Elemental Damage, Superabsorption, and Metal Detector running. Seeing this thread, I shrugged off my Elem damage and put on Self-Balancing on for a turn or two. No fumbling, as I expected.
However, when I shrugged it off (and replaced it with elemental damage) I began fumbling. Again, only a few turns, but I was definitely fumbling.
Re-equipping my weapon did not prevent fumbling, and neither did re-equipping my work gloves; I fumbled in the combat directly following equipping them.

But *now*, after levelling up, I seem to have stopped fumbling again...
I've got no ideas.

My fumbles were happening when I was wielding a prabble crossbow, but they don't seem to be happening anymore now.

I'm a gadgeteer also, so probably it *is* something with self-balancing..

I've been trying this today and it's *definately* related to shrugging-off Self Balancing.

After I shrug off self-balancing; no combination of uniquipping / reequipping weapons and/or work gloves prevents fumbles until I shrug-off Elemental and recast Self Balancing.

Sorry, I haven't had a chance to look into this yet, but I think I've got a decent theoretical grasp on what's happening. Just gotta get some time to poke around with the numbers.

One more datapoint:

Recasting Self Balancing (for a shorter duration), then letting it expire naturally (instead of Shake-Off), then reequipping Work Gloves also does not solve the issue.
