This one's worth a big prize (provided by an exiting player), so I'm going to make the puzzle itself challenging. Here ya go:

Five there are that are not known,
one of six is all that's shown.
Other games might have one more,
but here that's when rest's in store.
Benefits each across the field,
name all five to win a shield.

The answer is obvious. Dev team members. Specifically: Cris, Val, Olaf, Satan, Magi, and Malk.

Five there are that are not known,
-Five members of the dev team are secret.
one of six is all that's shown.
-We only know about Cris being a dev, due to her talisman for her devly charms.
Other games might have one more,
-KoL has a dev team larger than TH does.
but here that's when rest's in store.
-If you think you know about the secret dev team members, you think you've found a conspiracy. You start thinking that everyone is a dev member, and eventually you hurt your head and need a lie down.
Benefits each across the field,
-Woo, you know the secret dev members. Now you can blackmail them.
name all five to win a shield.
-Or even better, blackmail them into allowing you to join. The symbol of the Dev team is a shield. They are the Secret, Holistic, and Intelligent Eremites for Logical Development.

What? I think if I was part of the dev team, things would either be extremely weird, or quite demented.

So, in other words, things would be as they already are?

How about hidden stats: Offense, Defense, To-hit, Dodge and hmm... initiative. Or Offense, Defense, To-hit, Dodge and Damage absorption. I'm not sure how they fit the riddle but they are hidden.

I'd guess days of the week. We've only got 6 (playable) days in our Twilight week (one day less than weeks in most other places) and the extra day that we're lacking is used for resting from our crime hunting extravaganza.

If I by some strange am on to something (despite it being morning here and I haven't gotten my morning coffee yet) then the answer would be: Sunday, Moonday, Thewsday, Winsday, Starsday and Frayday.

Count 'em, Bob, that's 6 answers. If you're right, you'd have to remove one, the day it is. So I suppose that means Ryme'd take the answer depending on what day it currently is. It's Winsday, btw :p

resistance
damage
hp
item drop rate
chip drop rate
(in other games they normally have weakness*)

*not sure if TH has it yet or not

One of six is all that's shown
-Weapon Damage is the only one that shows up
Benefits each across the field
-The mechanics for combat benefit each other
Name all five to win a shield
-Offense, To Hit, Dodge, Defense, and Initiative

it's a spading bounty, so either we have to figure out what each one actually does, or there's a recipe to be spaded. it's not gonna be something we already know. it's a riddle, but still a bounty nontheless

Actually, I'll back up Bob on that. It's what I originally guessed an hour after the bounty went up [not in thread, as I"m not looking to win]. Reread the riddle again: There's 6, one is known, 5 are not.
We know the effects of Frayday... that's all we know the effects of. There was speculation a while back within chat [from Mischal, I think?] that had received favorable responses from Ryme concerning increased chips on one day. It had been a very long time ago though.. and I do -not- have logs of it, unfortunately.

Also, -most- games and real life too, has 7 days. We also -have- 7, but one is never seen in-game, as it is the day 'rest is in store'. [Read the manual sometime, for confirmation of that.]

I'd be interested in seeing where this spading goes, and if anyone has ideas as to how to go about it, I'm willing to offer turns to help this... But make sure you have a reasonable explanation as to why I'm doing it... IE: I'm not going to spend 100 turns playing in the sewers for "Increased rate of combat vs security guards."

My point wasn't that he's wrong (or right), but I do see the places where it matches up. I was saying he had 6 answers instead of 5, which means we were missing another part. It could be Frayday's length, I suppose. I had figured it for being the day it is, as that's 'shown'.

perhaps they are the known information regarding the TH ultra-rares?
-We have 6 ultra rares so far (we only have certified drop percentage for one, maybe?)
-Other games have more (like KOL)
-Of course they all benefit the player
-Selling all the ultra-rares get you enuff money for an aegis?
this is just a suggestion, just so ya know.
course, i might just be throwing you off track :D

Actually, selling one of each ultra rare at current prices would leave you very, very short of being able to buy an Aegis. Those things are super expensive.

All ultra-rares have the same drop rate: 100%.
Perhaps you mean the rate of occurrence, which is unknown for all ultra-rares.

Psh. I'd write an overwrite code for UR's. You know some bastard's gonna wait till -100% is possible, then get a guaranteed no-drop and complain. We only need 90% more!

That number is wrong. We already have another unspaded -items, Red Eyes. Only 90-X% more!

Edit: Ooops, another mistake. As item drop% is multiplicative you only need -50%, so only 40-X % more!

Ah, right, forgot about that :/ But I thought -50% means droprate*.5, and if droprate is 200, that'd only get it to 100. Which is obviously guaranteed. We could risk a 75, but -100% would be the only way to get a 0. In fact -100% gets a 0 on everything unless I'm mistaken about how it's working.

Heh, Ryme got mad that people kept figuring them out so quickly he made one that guaranteed a long time to spade.

Hardly. This riddle has been in the game since before beta. Probably two full years, even. I just decided nobody was ever going to figure it out if I didn't force them to.

Meh, what I meant was that the people who haven't noticed it until now (I'd imagine just about everyone) can't be done in one day.

may as well just say what everyone thinks
benefits from days of the week:
'shown': frayday (shown in game manual)
'not known': Sunday, Moonday, Thewsday, Winsday, Starsday (unknown benefits so far)

Been pretty quiet, so I'll drop a hint:

Two of the five benefits can only be discerned from patrolling.
Three of the five may be identified in numerous ways; at least one way involves patrolling, and at least one way can be done from your inventory.
One of the five may not be discernible for all classes.

Close, but not quite right.

Edited to add: I'm mostly concerned about numbers. If the wording is a bit off, I won't be too picky.

Dunno if I'm horribly off track or if this is just coincidental, but here goes.

If we are trying to spade effects of each day of the week, one of which is known (Frayday has no bedtime), then I think I may have spaded at least one of the other five. Yesterday (Sunday in game) I was adventuring at Guild for Imaginative Metachronism and my item drops were incredibly plentiful. Today however (Moonday) item drops seem very scarce, even though I've got the same effects and whatnot on as the day before.

Therefore, I think Sunday may have an intrinsic effect on item drop benefits. Like I said, this may be horribly off.
