Name: Wise Mandible
Items: Pearl of Wisdom + Colossal Mandible
Combining text--You attach the pearl to the mandible. Suddenly, you realize how the inferior maxillary bone is connected to the upper temporal bone, is connected to the rest of the cranium, is connected to the...well, you can't remember if insects have upper temporal bones, but you certainly feel smarter!
Item text: "A wise man once said "Speak softly and carry a big stick." A giant jaw bone might not be what he meant, but you go with what you got."

Ahh, guess I better get my idea up before it bites me in the rear and I end up not posting an idea at all. Some pretty fun ideas so far!

8MM

Weld: Flashlight and Digital Voice Recorder

Text: "You get out the welding torch, some solder, and some previously unmentioned, miscellaneous parts from your equally previously unmentioned attic, and weld the two items together. Super-duper to the Max!"

Would be interesting to make it equip-able of equipment or offhand, with an effect of an item increase. If an item's found after a battle, it'd also grant an additional 3 xp. Thus, the amount it increases xp would directly affect the frequency of the secondary effect. I'm thinking +4%.

Usage text. "While watching grainy footage of yourself in action from a few seconds ago, you notice $item fall out of your opponent's pocket and out of sight. You track it down. You gain an additional xp from finding it. And an extra 2 more exp from the depressing knowledge that the camera's putting on more than the 5 pounds you expected."

The "Super Duper to the Max" is an obvious reference to types of 8MM film.

Hope ya like! Goodluck to ya all!

Memory tube + lupine liquor = Temporary lube

Usable item

Effect gained: slippery + 10% chance of opponent not hitting you. (30 mins)

Combat message: You easily slip away from your opponent.

First I want to give props to Hammer Time. Nice.

My entry (a 2-part recipe)

1. blue + green + pink gumballs = wad of gum (works like slightly less effective duct tape)

2. wad of gum + sneakiers = gum shoe (more item drops)

Ducktape + any Gloves
"Sticky Bandits" Gloves
(From Home Alone 2:
Harry and Marv (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern), the "Wet Bandits" from the first film, have broken out of prison in Chicago and have found their way to New York trying to find a new target. Marv also comes up with a new nickname for the duo, the "Sticky Bandits", based on his ability to steal things with the use of double-sided tape.)
Power: 1
+(3-5)% Items

EDIT: Oops... Haven't found those :(
In light of this I would like to change my entry to the folowing:

Hammer + Knife = Badly Bent Knife [/b]

Errr... I'mma go ahead and point out that there already is a duct tape + gloves combo. I think it's leather gloves. Duct tape + leather gloves = sticky gloves, which gives (I believe) 3% items. :/

Heh. Sometimes great minds think alike. Or argg cheated off of the wiki. A lie detector test should sort this out.

There's also a gumshoe effect in the game already, too.

Posting for another mysteeeeeeeeeeeeeerious chat denizen...

Quote:
baggy cargo pants + electronic cabling

discount pants
These pants, let’s not mention the “belt”, look and are very cheap, but that’s not why they’re called discount pants. Everything that happens to find its way into one of the many, many pockets of these oversized pants comes with a big discount. And somehow, perhaps the sheer number of pockets creates a kind of “gravity”, a lot of things end up in your pockets.
All the free stuff in your pants is kinda getting in the way of walking, though.

H.A.M. - holographic anthropomorphic mentor

Everyone knows Ham is funny.

Multi level assembly needed for this one so I hope this isn't breaking the one recipe rule. Just seemed like this one needed more than a simple assembly of 2 items.

Hand Projector - accessory
Can be used x times to skip a combat adventure without using time by projecting an image of a giant hand allowing you to escape. Eventually the batteries run out.
Assemble -
Pathway imager
Flashlight

A vocal reminder - accessory
This gives a .5 min reduction of time used per adventure. Should have some limiting factor like can only be used for x number of times before it shorts out or batteries run down.
Assemble -
PDA
Voice recorder

When you assemble a Hand Projector and A Vocal Reminder to form…

H.A.M - holographic anthropomorphic mentor
Holographic projected sidekick - off hand or accessory.
May give tips after a battle (xp bonus), may give advice before a battle (S.M.A.R.T), may distract opponent during combat.

Strapped Knife + Large Knife = Unweildy Knife Thing
(combat Item that does a large amount of damage)
Unweildy Knife Thing + embiggening tonic = Sword-Chucks

Golden Hammer: weld thor's bolt and gallagher's mallet ( if not gallagher's mallet, alternative could be big honkin' hammer)

This golden hammer is the ticket to all your problems whether it be debt or weight loss, consider it solved. When you have a hammer, everything seems like a nail. Heck, you even feel like Thor. Start Floatin' and Slammin' ! Whoa, it even comes on a limited edition shiny green pedestal!

Humor: A golden hammer often refers to a solution you have that you think applies to all problems
Thor had a powerful golden hammer.
In the game super smash bros brawl, there was this item on the green pedestal and users were granted ability to float with the item

Item Specs: Grants user the ability for super jumps (like Thor)
+x% chips (debt in discription)
The item's strength should be reasonable according to Thor's bolts and mallet. (Stronger than both)

Image: The golden hammer from super smash brothers brawl

(fill free to modify specs and description etc, its just an idea)

2-parter

lambda token + lambda token= whole life

Extends current buffs by a few minutes

(effect is based the notion of a half life and concept of buffs degrading, actual humor in the description is probably better left to others who have actually played half life and can do more than go "crowbars, lol.")

Whole life + lambda token = tri lambda pin

(Side kick summoner, summons a member of the tri-lambda frat from revenge of the nerds)

Random side kick doing anything from minor + item (cokebottle glasses) to + monster level ( Annoyance from constantly cracking voice) to various super science gadgeteer style stuff. Sidekick would only provide one bonus per combat or ideally there are multiple possible sidekicks each of which provides 1 bonus and the sidekick is randomly choosen at random when the pin is used.

Bennefits to game:

Provide a consumable so that even those who already have all the arena gear they want will still have a use for lambdas.

Encourage people who aren't solely interested in direct competition to engage in pvp.

Pink Bomber

Ranged weapon

"They can run but they can't hide when you unleash a continuous cavalcade of crime-fighting chewing gum bubbles upon them. Stops 'em dead in their tracks. Well...not so much dead as sticky. Sticky and stuck."

Combine a Big Left Hook with another Big Left Hook which yields a Double Left Hook. Combine a Double Left Hook with a Sling which yields a SlingShot. Combine the SlingShot with Palooka Joe Gum which yields the Pink Bomber.

The premise is that the Pink Bomber shoots out giant bubble gum bubbles which adhere to criminals. The bubbles are so sticky/tacky that the fleeing criminal is instantaneously rooted to the spot upon contact, thus saving you valuable time pursuing them down twisty turny dark alleys. The payoff is twofold. First, the time you save by not chasing them down gives you a -X seconds to the duration of each turn bonus. The second comes from the fact that the bubbles themselves leave the weapon at supersonic speed. Should it prove that your aim is untrue and the bubble misses the criminal, it will burst open upon contact of whatever it does hit resulting in a sonic boom. The sonic boom does X amount of sonic damage. If you hit you get a "he's stuck like a schmuck" message, and if you miss you get an X amount of sonic damage message.

The name is a play on former heavyweight champ Joe Louis, whose nickname was the brown bomber. Lending to his mystique during his reign (twelve years as champion, and still holding the distinction of having successfully defended his title more times than any other heavyweight in history) were the tales told of his legendary prowess. One such tale was that he developed his lethal left hook as a byproduct of his childhood spent working hauling hay with his Grandfather. Said Grandfather only had had one arm, his right, which forced Joe to always help carry the heavy bales with his left arm. This was said to have started him down the path to the stunning power he possessed in that left hook. Palooka Joe Gum is used in homage to his given name, and the number of bums (palookas) he knocked out during his "bum-of-the-month-club" days. The Big Left Hook is used obviously because of his own skill with that punch. The "They can run but they can't hide" quote is directly from the man himself who used it during his career.

__________________________________________

Something else that I was thinking of but haven't really fleshed out much beyond a premise:

The Amazing Weapon of Unimaginable Power

"With unimaginable power comes unimaginable responsibility. Please use with care."

Combine a Positronic Computer with a Phone Number. Combine that product with a Pingerang. Combine that with an U.R.L.

You acquire a weapon that gives you an immense percentage boost in all forms of destructive damage. Acid, Fire, Electric, Sonic, Melons, whatever...it's jacked up crazy big time insanio stylee. You will become a one-man army with this bad boy...at least that's what the description will tell you....but when you go to the "Wear Things" screen and try to equip it instead of actually being able to use it you get a nice Rymetastic 404 error page.

The intriguing part would be if it was unusable 364 days a year, but every May 6th you could access it and have some fun while patrolling that day. We're talking BIG fun. Vaporizing every thing you hit with it kind of fun.

Smokey Pack
Combine Backpack with roman candle wand
Miscellaneous Item
Usable
(When used could get chip peice, charred medkit, Dr. Stolls burnt holes, and burning water, or whatever you think is cool.)

As smoke pours out from all the openings in the pack and you begin to think... maybe I shouldn't have put that wand in there. You run to your hideout before Smokey the Bear sees the smoke and to decide whether to open the pack or not.

Make either work gloves or black gloves firecrackerable into fingerless gloves and gloveless fingers.

Possible item desc:
While offering somewhat less protection against damage than their peers, these gloves provide significantly more protection against typing errors.

Enchantments are increased criticals and decreased fumbles (or no fumbles), but the power is a couple lower than the glove it comes from.

For the gloveless fingers, they can be gloves (or maybe offhand?) with the power that was "removed" from the fingerless gloves.

And of course, the gloveless fingers and fingerless goves combine back into the original gloves.

here's my little bit.

Spiked Shield

weld Spiked Glove + Titanium Shield

scratches enemy initially damaging them plus has a chance to keep enemy from attacking because he opens a wound or could keep from hitting as hard from the pain of the wound. could also cause enemy to bleed every round from a deep wound slowly draining HP and might not be as damaging in combat. not as effective against robots but still a chance to slice a wire or hydraulic line which could cause great damage or even killing the robot.

I guess i have two recipes here, but they create 2 items which combine to create another item :)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Extension Cord + Spooked Credo = Speedo's with a tail

"This is a pair of Speedo's which have an extension cord attached to make it look like a tail.

Your opponents may think twice about approaching you if you are wearing this"

Item type: Pants
Power: 22
Level required: 5
Bonuses: Attacker takes 4 damage

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hooded Cloak + Fish Whiskas = Kitty Costume

"This is a costume made of simply a cloak and some whiskers glued to your face (the whiskers, not the cloak)

It makes you feel agile"

Item Type: Shirt
Power: 26
Level required: 5
Bonuses: Reflex +3, Ice resistance +8%

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kitty Costume + Speedo's with a tail = Cat Suit

"Who knows why you would make this, nevermind wear it.
You are bound to get some funny looks from people while you are wearing this, Unless you are female, weild a whip and have a movie made about you.

Item Type: Full-body suit
Power: 55
Level Required: 8
Bonuses: Reflex + 6, Ice resistance +12%, Attacker takes 8 damage

Official Entry:

robbin' hood

Combine a "capo cap-o" and an "eagle feather"
A hat that gives increased accuracy and damage with ranged weapons, and extra percent chips.

Other unofficial (semi-serious) ideas:

decorated jerkin + leather jacket = beef jerkin (Shirt, +HP)
smoldering ash + bodice = hot bodice (Shirt, attacker takes fire damage)
flashlight + digital saber = flash lightsaber (Be like sci-fi hero Luke Skywater)
spiked gloves + Krakatoa punch = spiked punch (Okay, maybe not)
harmonica + laser cannon= Pachelbel's Cannon (ranged, sonic damage)
seal o' canth + ethereal club = seal club (You try to bash open the can with the club, but end up destroying them both. A passerby sees you destroying an implement of torture to his animal friends and gives you an invitation to join the Seal Club. Gives a seal sidekick)

Thanks,
The Leopard

Okay, here's the results.

First, I want to say this was tough. There are a LOT of recipes here that I really liked. In fact, I may use and/or adapt nearly half of them at some point. Thanks to everyone who entered -- I laughed out loud at a number of these, and had fun reading them.

Grossest entry goes to reaper for the pinkeye gumball. It's funny, but .... I just can't make someone eat that, not even in an imaginary world.

From the "it's a shame it wasn't their first entry" category, come several that I might have considered if they fit the rules better or were the first recipe. Clever recipes, good references, funny, or great names, these are good suggestions, but weren't quite right.

Flasher's coat, Quijote's spear, Hammer time, whole life & Tri-Lambda pin, and Pachelbel's cannon.

Honorable mentions:
Ivory Coast Ginger Beer, Robbin' Hood, Discount Pants, and the Futility belt. The ginger beer is a good recipe, the robbin' hood is VERY easy to visualize, the pants are funny, and the futility belt has been something I've been meaning to do for a while (not sure if Jesus was the originator or just happened to hit on something that's been mentioned previously).

Top prize goes to:
LXNDR for golden apple + lottery ticket = golden ticket

Clever recipe, excellent reference, and good use of a new game mechanic that has lots of room for expansion.

Second prize goes to:
Olaf for fingerless gloves + gloveless fingers = gloves

This one is a bit of a stretch, but it's very funny and a clever play on both a modern cliche and a good use of the firecracker.

Third prize goes to:
Zillow for backpack + roman candle wand = smokey pack

This one just made me laugh. Also, it's a good way to introduce joke items, and they're always fun.

Conclusion:

I'll need at least a few days to start creating the items. Winners will get their prizes, which will be announced here as soon as I remember to decide what they're supposed to be. (This is bad form, and I apologize; nobody else would be allowed to run a contest without stipulating the complete prize, and I shouldn't have been either.)

If I use anyone else's exact recipe later on, I'll give 50 of that item to the inventor, too, as stipulated at the beginning of the contest.

It was a hoot to read through all of the different recipes. LXNDR, Olaf and Zillow, all three of you deserved to win. Nice job.

Sorry it took me so many ages to get around to adding these items, but the prizes have been awarded. Each of the top 3 has received 50 of the invented item. On top of that, prizes are as follows:

First prize:
100 golden powders
5 rainwaters (which will be implemented one of these days, I swear)

Second prize:
50 lustrous liquids
5 rainwaters

Third prize:
25 russet lumps
5 rainwaters

The top 3 recipes are in the game, though I'm still working on joke items from the smoky pack, which may take a while, but I didn't want to wait any longer than necessary.

I'll probably also be adding other recipes from the contest soon-ish, because there's a lot of good ones.

Thanks again to all the contestants: got some excellent ideas from this, and I love seeing everyone being funny and creative. Good stuff!

The Bard's Play + Mourning Star

Epic Flail

This thing looked good on paper, but holding it in your hand all you can think of is "You'll shoot your eye out, kid." You can't really shoot your eye out with it, although something tells you that you can come close.

+10 Melee damage
Critical hits become fumbles
Sometimes returns 5% of weapon damage as damage to you

Someone has to have had the idea, but a board search said no one had used the word "flail".

Ouch... I'd never use it just because of that.
I'd use it to crash the game.

Score crit!
Epic Flail makes it a fumble!
Self-Balancing makes it a crit!

Game crashes and Ryme kills me dead!

Heh. It's value could be given as "priceless", but when you try to sell it... "It turns out that it's only worth one million theoretical chips. No one actually wants to give you anything for it."

And it could have a "discard" link... "You slip the flail into an inconspicuous nook and try to stealthily walk away, but a few seconds later a helpful citizen trots up to you and returns it. No matter how hard you try, no one will let you forget your Epic Flail."

So, um, it's only been, what, more than half a year? Anyway, the smoky pack actually does something now. Really sorry it took so darn long, hopefully it's worth the wait. I think the stuff that came out of this contest was a fantastic success. Really good stuff. I should probably do another round of culling from the entries for some more fun goods.
