These are just random thoughts I've had about Twilight Heroes. A lot of this is random mental masturbation, but perhaps there's some nuggets of interesting musings in here. Caution, a lot of things in this post are probably spoilers.

Somserset Skies

If you equip the Ultimate Aviator Goggles and choose to walk, your ability to fly won't get you anywhere. If you want to visit the skies, you need to use your trusty skateboard or bicycle.

What is it about Somerset?

Somerset is a poor, but relatively safe, neighborhood from which all our heroes originate. If trying to fit your rp concept into the setting, there's not much room here for the Bruce Wayne concept - the rich superhero.

Nonetheless, why do so many heroes come from one place? And what is it about that one place that has caused a Heroes Guild to be established? There has to be more to that one area of the city than we know.

A Dimensional Portal

Why does the heavy industry district have a free standing dimensional portal? Okay, I know the Zion's Tears individuals tried to build it, but why is this portal still operational? It was moved to the industry district during level 7, but WHY? Why wasn't it simply closed down, is there a reason to keep it open?

Triassic Park

Is it truly heroic to venture into this preserve and beat things up? Are they threatening anyone? Or are we breaking into a zoo to fight caged animals? I'd love to see more reason or backstory for this zone, even if it's just a slight mention in the intro text to the industrial area.

The Desert

Who are the Unborn? Clearly they are clones. But there are no quests involving them, and since they have a fully-fledged military base out in the desert, I'm wondering how heroic it is to hang around there and beat up the poor militant clones. If they're undesirables, why does the government allow them to have a military base? If they're okay people, why are we going to beat them up? I just feel like there's more backstory here than we've been able to see - perhaps they'll be the subject of the unimplemented level 8 quest?

Then there's the Fiendish Pit. Has it always been there, or has it opened more recently? What caused it? Do the people of the city think or worry about it, or do the fiends only bother people who go and challenge them (like us heroes)?

Robots

Clearly this world is somewhat advanced of ours. The existence of robots as a sort of matter-of-fact given seems to support this. (Not to mention manning a space station, which can be visited without space flight). Still, there's a renegade robot hive sitting in the industrial zone, and the casino area has a 'city of lost robots'. What I find interesting is that the space station's robots aren't "advanced" or positronic, and can still be affected by Psion skills (with Electronic Understanding).

Where is Twilight?

Now, we know Ryme created the map of Twilight so that it wasn't a real city. But still, we can deduce some things from its markers, assuming the world isn't radically different from our own. Clearly there are some major differences, even if we exclude the existence of costumed heroes.

First, we know it is a United States city, since the highway that runs through it is marked with an interstate escutcheon (the red white and blue shield). Second, we know it is in a desert. Third, we know it is coastal, on a sea.

Now, there is one major desert area in the United States, and it spreads throughout the Southwest. So, unless the US in the Twilight universe annexed more of Mexico than we did (thus giving more coastal places touching the desert), the most likely places for Twilight are California and Texas.

Wow, I know Ryme will like this post, but I just HAVE to say this:

Someone has way too much time on their hands!

Unborn, dimensional portal, and triassic park will have answers and more backstory given to them, probably in that order. These are good questions, particularly about the portal, and it will have a satisfying explanation, I promise.

Space robots are actually so advanced they're basically like organic beings, so psions can affect them. (Well, that, and if I didn't, then psions wouldn't be able to use any of the high-level content, and that would be awful.)

Twilight intentionally exists in a nonexistent place. Think Vegas with everything south of it sunk under water.

Because when the Zion quest was finished, I was spending all my time in the portal, and I complained incessantly when Ryme closed the gate, so he moved it to the industry :P

I wager normal people are level 11, so they probably don't know about the pit.

The intro text says you got hit by a UFO and then got a talisman, or something. So my guess is that the UFO patrols the place. The sheer number of superheroes on the good side keeps it relatively safe. The Heroes Guild was set up because, well, you probably know unions better than I do.

A Dimensional Portal which the government was paid good money to keep open

Fix'd. Likewise the military base.

I think the game world is sort of suspended like a little bubble of normalcy in a weird universe. If that makes sense (think of a terrarium, then put said terrarium into a quicksand pit and shove it down until it's in the middle somewhere). So the dimensional gate and the fiendish pit are just holes through which the denizens of the outer dimensions can pass. Besides, nobody said Twilight wasn't in an eco-bubble or that the world is round.

Wow, looking at that, I realised I suck at explaining my ideas.
