May Maso Melee (Contest)

Postby mara » Sun Apr 21, 2013 7:42 am

Complete a Maso run during the month of May and post your results here. Top run, by daycount then timecount, gets a Plaid Couch. I'll think of something nice to give the 2nd- and 3rd- place finishers as well.

Hmm. Suppose I can take a break from heirloom runs for this.

Took me long enough to build back up after the last retcon that I did. It's gonna be a long time before I retcon again.

I'll try it out with DresdenII. I shouldn't, since I won't win a prize, but maybe I'll get lucky.

I may as well throw my hat into the ring. I have not done a MASO in a while.

Maso sucks. I miss my skills. :(

Can't wait to get back to heirloom runs.

Nah man, I may play it a whole bunch but I'm not the fastest. Shiny won the contest last year, because of her crazy 9-day run.

I think it was a 10-dayer. Is that still the fastest Maso out there? Looking at her account, it was about 30 minutes faster than my fastest Maso run. Maybe we need a new bounty thread :)

Stupid NCI.

12 days
49h 41m 0s

Should have been 11 days, but nooooooooo, I had to waste over a dozen turns and 4 smoke bombs trying to get a paperclip.

Poop, that was difficult. Really don't know how to play maso any more.

Time Played This Run: 2d 9h 28m 42s
Days This Run: 14

I'm going to have a quick second go to see if I can do an 11 day run in the remaining days. Unlikely on this form.

102 Naturalist 2013-05-14 03:22:21 14 57h 59m 55s 11 22 0 Maso N/A Altruist
103 Psion 2013-05-26 03:27:53 13 56h 58m 50s 11 22 0 Maso N/A Altruist

I fail, especially given #103 was with a futility belt

As this contest draws to its conclusion, I would like to remind anyone who has not posted here or has not messaged me in-game to do so over the next few days so I can figure out the results quickly. Thanks to all for participating.

I suck so much at Maso, especially when I'm an idiot and choose a class with no healing skill.

13 days, 52h 54m 20s as a Psion, because Psions are the worst.
15 days, 51h 10m 15s as an Elementalist, because moving makes it hard to play every day. >.<

Missed the 11 day run by a mile. Today I've run out of time and I'm level 10, 1320 XP from level 11.

Even if I'd timed it so I could finish my run, don't think I would've even come close to challenging for first.

I enjoyed doing Maso in a truly maso way though - forgot how badly you miss healing.

Thanks to everyone for participating. It looks like the final results are as follows:

Cristiona: 12 days: 49h 41m 0s
Nommy: 13 days: 52h 54m 20s
RKBrumbelow: 13 days: 56h 58m 50s
Acidcat: 14 days: 57h 28m 42s
Harry Dresden: 14 days: 59h 8m 40s

First prize: Plaid Couch
Second prize: 1,000,000 chips
Third prize: 660 subscription vouchers

I'm going to leave this up for a few days to see if any more runs show up. If I made a mistake, let me know.

Harry, worse it was a Psion run

If it matters, those runs were done on my Khal Thralkhar account. Getting 13 points per level helps, but I suspect having access to foil and mettle makes a big difference as well.

Having a healing skill would have cut at least an hour off my run, probably closer to two. I just didn't think it through when I chose my class.

Yeah, I was astonished how hard it is to keep your hitpoints up at low levels.

Is the futility belt bad then? I haven't played with one yet, wiki makes it seem like you get lots of good effects.

It gives a free runaway as the Nova skill. Does that count as a good effect?

That's the only good effect. Everything else is bad.

The futility belt does sometimes restore PP and HP (not at the same time) but it also will:
Damage you (you mis-throw a grenade)
End the combat losing the turn (you find a smoke bomb)
Increase your fumble chance (you find butter in your belt)
Stun you (grappling hook misfire though I think teh real effect of this is nothing since your opponent is also stunned)

the smoke bomb effect is the most annoying ... or at the least teh one I complain about the most.

I highly encourage everyone to do a maso psion run with a futility belt. After that every other run is cake.

I'm pretty sure those will only fire if the respective pool is already maxed.

Thanks again to all who participated. Prizes have been sent! I'm pretty much down to nothing on my alt, so I'm not sure when the next one of these will be. Probably Augustish.

Try having it fire off 3 times in a row when you're trying to take down a quest boss. :/
