Minor interface tweak requests

Post by Jick »

I hope it's not presumptuous of me to start this topic, but I came in here expecting to see an appropriate place for it and didn't find one.

I'd like to see the section of the fight code where it gives you the yield of Vlad's Decryptonomicon give you a link back to your computer lab.

Maybe the words "your computer" could be linked to the lab with no fanfare or text-decoration property? I'm a big fan of links that aren't visibly distinguishable, as they reduce potential confusion, but that could be just me.

It'd be nice if the "Last Area Patrolled" text itself was a link that brought you to the zone where the area is, like in KoL. Also, just a friendly reminder Ryme, it'd be nice to have a progress bar for experience.

Is it better then if you have to retype the name of a person if you're casting a couple of buffs on them? I was kind of following KoL's lead in this area, and assumed there was some consensus that remembering the last person was beneficial.

I did that partly because you can select (yourself) from the contact list dropdown to easily get buffs targeted back at you. It's not a big deal for me, but I've got a short name...

In TH's case, I'd probably suggest keeping the field filled out when submitting the form, but not when loading it from somewhere else. That way if you wanna cast 3 buffs on the same person you can, but you don't end up accidentally giving glebs a bunch more metal detector when you meant to selfishly throw it onto your own pile.

It'd be nice to have an avatar, or at least our class picture, on the left pane. It seems kind of bare, though that could just be from being used to KoL.

Something I'd like to see:

When you click 'Character', you get your sheet. It would be nice if clicking your name on that sheet gave you what everyone else saw. As it stands now, you either need to click your name in chat, or do a player search on yourself.

If there isn't a reason for the Auction House to sort alphabetically, then I think it'd be nice.

Also, can our quotes have new lines? Obviously there would be a need for a limit on the vertical length of our quotes, but it'd be sweet.

Currently? Lack of space.

Clicking your name in the left-hand character pane will take you to your character screen.

Clicking your name in the character screen will take you to the showchar page, also known as the "view yourself as other people see you if they click your name in chat".

Can we have a list with checkboxes on the autosell page as opposed to a scroll-y box? For the list of items, that is.

How about an option to specify how many badges we want in a row? The merit badge list is getting a bit cluttered. :P

The merit badges just auto-wrap when the row is full. I could see snazzing that up eventually, but it's very low priority.

For future reference, can we have our Inbox separated into several divisions? Some people might not like this, so maybe make it an option?

Just to separate the Inbox into Messages and Auction House for now.

Something I always found a bit odd was the gambling games in the casino district aren't actually inside of a casino.
My suggestion is to move them inside of the Wooden Nickel, an have the main patrol area "The Casino Floor" or "The Pit", as "Casino Gounds" infers to me the whole property, including back of the house and back room.
This would also (hopefully) help with some of the confusion of the back of the house opening up and people not knowing where to look.

Or is this more of a "Creative player ideas". I didn't think so, as it's not really anything new, just restructured.

"This neighborhood contains some of the older and more run down—and thus seedier—casinos in Twilight. At night you're as likely to lose your shirt to a mugger on the street as you are to lose it at the tables inside one of the casinos. Where do you want to go?"

I guess there is no specific casino you go to to play these games, just whatever one you feel like going to. The Golden Wooden Nickel is just particularly good for patrolling in.

I've been fiddling with my inventory a lot lately, and I have some thoughts on it.

Wear Things:
  1. It's been mentioned, but clicking on 'Accessory' from my current equipment should drop me to that section.
  2. Collapsible sections would be nice while scrolling through my stuff.
  3. The order is screwy. Your current equipment is listed as Helmet, Main Hand, Shirt, Gloves, Pants, Boots, Off hand, Acc1/2. Your wearable equipment is listed as Helmet, Shirts, Full Body, Melee, Ranged, Offhand, Gloves, Pants, Accessories. I understand needing to break up melee and ranged, but if the orders could be roughly the same, that would help. Also, is it supposed to be "offhand" or "off hand"?
  4. A "remove all" option would be nice.
Full Inventory
Some manner of organization is starting to be needed, I'm afraid. I was looking at my inventory, and I have about two and a half pages (1280x1024) of items, and I don't have half the items that, say, Satan does. I'm guessing a breakdown of 'Comestibles', 'Equipables', 'Manipulatables' (usables), and... 'Decoratables' (misc.)?

Also, once the Full Inventory gets less cluttered, improving the 'Sell Items' section could probably use an overhaul.

What about fixing up the leaderboard page bit? Can you make two or three columns? Cause this is a pretty unwieldy list we're beginning to develop, and scrolling all the way down takes a while.

Can we buy multiples in the Wok? Or at least have the radio button stay highlighted? T'would make life a little easier when shuffling around stars.

Can we have individual slot buttons next to each accessory? Like

silver star [equip][1][2]

KoL has this as well, but it removes a pageload.

Probably low on the to-do list, but a chat tweak to make links work like KoL's do. In other words, it tosses up a hyperlinked [link], and breaks up the link itself to avoid frame breaking.

I've noticed you hit that one a lot. But how many different ways to we need for the same thing?

What I need even more than another duplicate is something that eats /whatever messages when it's not a valid command.

From Zcollins:

When trying to rest with no time left (ex: at 6:58:30 AM but still with turns) it displays
Can't Rest, Gotta Work
Sadly, you don't have time to rest right now. Work starts in an hour, and you've got to get home and get cleaned up. If you wanted to sit around resting, you should have thought about that before staying up all night playing with your friends. "Playing" being code for "saving the city" and "with your friends" meaning "from evil."

Go back to the main page.

Or go back to the main page.

I'm just proposing that one of the main page links be replaced if at all possible. Looks kinda screwy.

Can you also add one for the same command with a shortcut key of "/chocolatepudding"... I tend to type that by mistake sometimes too. ;)

That's no fun. Then we wouldn't be able to fake mis-channels.

Well, again, there's an infinite number of ways that someone can mess things up, and I can only protect against a limited number of those ways.

I might've said this, but it'd be cool to have the equipment sections possibly sortable by power. I'd tack on a way to sort by level requirement, but meh. Power takes precedence.

MN - I'd say that objects you can't wear should be sorted after objects you can. So, first you get all the shirts you can wear sorted alphabetically/by power, whatever, and then all the shirts you can't wear sorted by whatever.
