MagiNinjA: like i said, ryme has explicitly said names are not allowed. [under the 48-hour spoiler rule]
Greed: yeah, I'm looking for it
Greed: and it's not in policies, or faq so far
Greed: still looking.
MagiNinjA: in chat.

After mentioning the name of a certain item I was selling that's from the new area, which is in the auction house.

So if spoiling here apparently means something different from the way it's used in the rest of the world, i.e. the name of the subject, it'd sure be nice to have something in the actual faq or policies that says that.

Just to give you a bit of insight behind the reasoning of that..
If I told you the name of, oh say...
Underpowered PDA.
What are you going to think about? Is that name -not- a spoiler, or is it a spoiler, because the name itself hints to how it is made?

Oh.. Not good enough example? Let's try..
Pearl Necklace?
Not trying to get you started -again-, just saying that there's reasoning behind why a name might be considered a spoiler.

Edit: Meh, Spoiler tags SUCK

Yeah, that's understandable.
The fact is that these items are viewable in the auction house as well as other player's profiles, though, which makes that logic kinda useless without filtering the names in those areas for 48 hours too.

Ryme doesn't care about those areas because you can choose to ignore those areas. You can't avoid someone blurting a spoiler in chat.

Just because an item is potentially visible to players to not make it visible to a lot of players. I might look at one person's profile and browse one section of the AH and there is a good chance I will see nothing. I will be in chat the whole time I am in TH however so things that tweak my imagination to certain new items should be spoiler policied against.

Moreover, it's just 48 hours. It's not like we're asking for a lot here...

I'm not sure I understand what is being requested to be added to FAQ/policies.

A spoiler, by my definition, is telling someone about something brand new that they couldn't learn without exploring that new stuff. That includes ALL specifics. Names, functions, descriptions, etc. I think this is fairly close if not identical to the definition used by most other places, is it not?

As noted, it's okay to point to a profile, because someone has to be willing to click the link and accept the spoiler; it's impossible to know not to read a line in chat, hence the ban. The spoiler policy is not an attempt to force anyone to figure it out on their own, I don't really care how anyone does it. The spoiler policy is to protect players who *want* to figure it out on their own from having something shoved in their face when they'd rather not see it.
