This is a little bit early, but knowing that a lot of people play KOL as well as TH and speed runs in KOL are a big deal to a subset of players, I wanted to ask about the possibility of doing speed runs in TH. My main wonder is about the bedtime mechanic.

Unlike KOL, TH has a hard limit on the effective amount of turns you can play per day. Is the design geared toward making the weekend the main time for speed runs to happen (assuming it will be possible to do something like 1-day runs).

I know that the 'ascension' mechanic isn't in place yet but I thought that it might be interesting to see what sort of diamondy speed game is in the works for TH, or what the possibilities might be.

Interesting question.

I can tell you only so much...that Ryme DOES want speed runs and leaderboard epeen glory in TH. However, he wants TH to simulate real life in some parts of it...one of which was the bedtime mechanic, I suppose.

A speedy run will probably edge out at 4 or 5 days, possibly. But that is really in the far future, so, grain of salt.

Depends on what you're counting for Speedruns.

Optimizing for Days is just a matter of chosing when during your run (early/mid/end) that you get extended bedtime.

Optimizing for Turncount is another option wherein a speedrunner could do funky things like take no turns but drink Smart Juice for days on end.
