This is the important bit about this idea. On these sites you're up against games that give an in-game reward for voting every single day, and so get many many votes. In order to get a high ranking and attract the attention of casual visitors/other voters, TH would probably need to have a voting page in-game, perhaps with some sort of reward, or people are going to forget to vote.

Plus there are quite a few other voting sites, if the voting idea takes off it might be an idea to register with multiple sites.

I don't how people would feel about the idea of rewarded in-game voting; much as it might bring in more players, there's something... un-TH about it. Us superheroes don't do things for personal gain! And how can I put this delicately... the quality of players these sites attract may be dubious. Hmm forget delicate: in other games I've played, the more prominence voting has in the game, the more retarded the player base.

Here is the direct link to vote for TH, in case people want to bookmark it.

The banners for signatures is nice and all, but not every forum has images enabled for signatures. How about and animate smoky moon with "Twilight Heroes" superimposed for use as an avatar?

Not a bad idea, but the current smoky moon is 269k. It could probably be shrunk a bit with some effort, but CS has all the originals.

If I may, Or even if I may not

In my hometown there are several Gameshops that let you post flyers. So the Street team is a great Idea.

Also How about a Myspace Page. I know you have one probably, but why not Have a twilight heroes one. Also create a Banner for Myspace and facebook every player who has an account can post it. Freest adverts there are

Maybe you can add a top chart thing at the Starboard Port for voting.

I don't really understand what that means, SL. Could you elaborate?

I believe what SL means is having a leaderboard listing who has voted the most times.

I thought of that too, but then thought it's a bit of unexciting leaderboard, as it could end up with a bunch of players with the same score, relying on the others' internet connections to go down for a day in order to get advancement.

i'm sure that cris or someone (maybe even me) can personally offer incentives for voting IF you put a link
just add to the bottom panel "support twilight heroes! vote for us!" or something

you could also have a raffle with some random items (new OR old, you could take em from players who've quit or something) every say month or week, with tickets that you get from voting.

I'll admit, I haven't voted over at the Top Web Games for... weeks. Months. Tis' just too much bother, I've got other things I need to do.

Eh. A six-pack requires an address to ship the thing to, and isn't friendly to kiddos...
(And if you think I'm taking this too seriously, I just don't feel like the 8-p emote would really work here.)

In-game incentives, meh; if they're small, like maybe a pack of Ginger drinks, that might work. Not too important, but it helps give the impression that you're actually doing something.

In game incentives are pretty much ruled out already for several reasons.

Ah well on the in-game incentives. Can't think of anything else, though.

dannzy, promotional materials are a good idea. In my opinion, just a userbar for a forum signature or the like would suffice, however. Oh, and maybe a screenshot of gameplay or a few somewhere on the main site? So that people know more what they're considering getting into.

Hey Ryme, if I advertise TH on all my personal websites that I have can I get some sort of in-game reward? You can't blame a guy for asking...

I would gladly paper Austin with all kinds of flyers for the game, if someone could just put a good one together.

Twilight Heroes: The Movie :P

I had a good idea earlier when I was staring dismally at the rollover kitten, but I can't remember it now. I'll edit it in if I do.

Better idea. Take Watchmen, cut out all of the fluff, and just leave in the half-hour sex scene. Bam. Done.

Im too lazy to read through the forums to check if this has been suggested yet but...Ive been lucky enough to be one of the first few players to join a brandspankin new game. Besides adding the game in a game directory like http://onrpg.com or http://www.pbbg.org/links.asp, another very effective way I saw was a RECRUITMENT DRIVE. Where the top 10 or top 100 players who recruit the most new members get some sort of perk/prize.

How this works is, each player has their own specific recruitment link, and all they have to do is spread it around.

Edit: heres another link where u can advertise ur game Ryme. http://www.pbbg-portal.com/

PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD RYME!! STOP THE TSUNAMI OF STUPID MAFIA/PRISON/FANTASY GAMES!! YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!! T_T -sniff-

I believe in you.

First, how do we find out who those people are? Sad as it is, you know SOMEONE's going to make a hundred multis and have them all say he recruited them.

Second, that also has a tendency to promote spamming and bothering people who just aren't interested in the game. And when you see a Forum filled with "HAY GO PLAY TWILIGHT HEROES TELL THEM STEVEBOB SENT YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111111111111ONE!!!" it gives a bad name to Twilight Heroes.

But, you know... the other ideas are good.

Again, I don't know HOW many times I've said this, but giving out perks to the people who have X referrals IS A BAD IDEA.

Let me say that again.

REFERRAL REWARDS ARE A BAD IDEA.

Can we stop with any kind of derivative of that? PLEASE?

Well then, another way is, Ryme could set up a bunch of links to Gaming sites and each day we could all vote for Twilight Heroes. Also some added incentives might solidify the daily voting.

This is how the other games I've played who aren't as good as TH get so popular. Again, save us Ryme!

The only incentive we need is a larger player base.

Corrupt Shadow wipes some brown stuff off of his nose.

Somewhere, possibly in this very thread, definitely on some mod profiles, is a link to one such web site. I don't think I get many votes.

Not sure how I'd provide incentives, either. How do I know you voted on another site?

Usually all the voting links would be all in one page. Or a banner at the bottom -[insert direction]- corner of every page. Something like that would be great. U definitely have My vote.

I always assumed that voting sites have a simple API or some javascript or something that game developers use to determine when someone has voted, but I can't find any information on TWG about it and it's late and I don't feel like digging. Maybe if you have a game listed you can find out? You can at least check when they're clicking the vote link by routing them through a link of your own, but they wouldn't have to actually complete the vote. The other nice thing some games do is let you know when you can vote next.

I created this in about five minutes: http://www.fileqube.com/file/QjlkWbD206012 It's a greasemonkey script that adds a "Vote for TH!" link right next to the logo. This will help remind me to vote every day, which is better than nothing. If anybody feels like hosting it, let me know.

I'll try to come up with ideas when I'm less tired :)

Edit: updated that greasemonkey script, it opened the link in the header before.

Try going on to some of those sites and ask for advertisement options.

Also add your game at this site: http://www.pbbg.org/

Basically, imagine you are looking for a browser-based game. Then whatever comes up, try adding this game to those places.

Has anyone thought about writing novels on Twilight? just twist some nameplaces, but don't get too melodramatic...
I just read this post, and it's gotten me some ideas.

I stumbled in here through the Jayisgames post ages ago, played for a bit, and then forgot about it. And remembered it out of the blue years later, and realized that a lot more content has been added and it looks more fun now.

Maybe send an email to forgotten accounts to remind them about the cool new stuff?

I do plan on doing this once: when retcon is implemented and the game hits a whole new level of replayability. I'm hesitant to do it more than that because I don't like to spam, and I didn't give anyone a chance to opt in (or out).

One way to handle that I guess would be to set up an opt-in system, but send out an email notification to everyone (or just everyone who is "idle") informing them of the ability to opt in, and also tell them about retcon.

I figured out that a Twilight edition of Monopoly would be fun. Go figure here. I've put in some new mechanics so that it won't be wholly "Monotony" (as Ren and Stimpy have called it before).

You should somehow get TH on those free online game websites. Like those cheesy games like Adventure Quest and such come from the online gaming websites. At least that's how I joined AQ when I was younger.

Orrrr..... maybe make Jick put an announcement on KOL encouraging players to join TH.
Ok nevermind about that. That would never work.

Dunno about "making" Jick do anything, but he did mention TH on his radio program repeatedly when it went beta, and a few times since. He's been very supportive about the whole game.

When retcon is out, it would be a good time to mention it on Radio KoL again.
