I thought it would be really cool to create a store in somerset, where for a certain amount of chips, one could make a custom weapon. The better the weapon, the more it would cost. Though, the weapon's attributes would have to be capped somehow.

Included in this custom weapon would be the ability to name it. Maybe even upload a small gif for it (if approved by an administrator). If not, there could be a small list of item pics for the user to choose from.

Not only would this be a great sink, if you put the cap on the attributes high enough, people would have to donate to more $$ for silver stars and such, so they could sell them and make more chips to buy the custom weapons.

Not only could you get weapons, but also offhands, accessories, helmets, etc. I would love to see something like this implemented, though I think it would have to be done with great care since something like this could be exploited if it was not limited enough.

Let me know what you think. :o)

It would have to be pretty damn expensive. I see that as being more of a donation item.

It doesn't have to be, It would have to be in order to make something good. That is part of the idea in getting more donations.

I would agree that this would be a very interesting mechanic, and probably be very fun. The problem I see is the coding and database design for it.
I had a similar idea for a project of my own, and believe me, it's not an easy thing to do.

I... don't think we need any kind of sink right now.

With the current prices of Silver Stars in the AH (~60-70k), I wager very few people have enough liquid cash to actually get a Gold Star. In order for something like this to be properly rare and expensive, it would probably need to be in the multiple Gold Star range.

Currency sinks are for when there is way too much liquid currency and the game is undergoing hyperinflation; not as a way to try and cynically gin up donations.

So, what is this elusive 'meat' I keep hearing about? For an unknown reason, it fills my head with an image - not that of a dystopian future with superheroes, but that of a magical kingdom populated by stick figures...

Stick figures? Magic? I'd be pretty loath to play in that kingdom.

Also, to clarify Cristiona's point, I think there's two things going on here. People are using the term chip sink, which is usually used in an economic context of price control, but in their case means "I've got meat and don't know where or how to spend it."

I empathize with wanting toys, and I also realize that with nothing to do with chips, there could easily be inflation in the near future, at which point we'll need a chip sink in the economic sense.

I think we're using the term "Chip Sink" improperly here. The real reason for such a thing wouldn't be to help the economy so much as it would be for getting to do something with all of our chips.

I suspect that TH really doesn't need a chip-sink yet simply because it isn't *done* yet.

Part of the reason people have too many chips is that there is little motivation to Level-Up once you've completed the Cube quest.

So, sure, we're seeing some inflation* at the moment but it'll dip each time new content is introduced.

*Curiously, the price of Brays/Scalpels does not seem to be showing much inflation over the past couple weeks. This must either be because a) inflation isn't nearly as bad as everyone seems to think; b) demand for them is collapsing, or c) people are building multis to farm them.

Well let me see if that wager works out then >.>

Best $20 I spent (hopefully)

Mostly B with a bit of C, I wager.

People are beginning to realize that an extra dozen or so adventures isn't worth two thousand (or more) chips.

However, if people really do have chips burning a hole in their pocket, then perhaps Display Cases would be a good idea. That could spur collecting, and start reshuffling chips around via the AH (which, through its cut, will reduce liquidity).

I don't have a good idea of the what the economy is like, but if we do need a chipsink, then perhaps some place that you could buy special buffs? It doesn't create items, and it gets rid of the chips.

Hey guys, how about waiting some couple of months before ragging on a new game?

I don't want to stop ideas, but really, demanding things now when Ascension isn't even implemented seems ridiculous to me. I'd say raise the issue when it rolls around.

I don't really see these as complaints, and I'm happy to dream up ways for you to spend your money -- they will be coming. But you may also consider saving/investing, as it may be useful later, too. It's not a glamorous thing to do with money, but it's practical.

when I think "sink" it makes me think of something designed to suck out money that wasn't intended to be in the game in the first place, i.e. bug chips. As there aren't that many bugchips in the system that I'm aware of, it seems unnecessary. That being said, some new better equipment from NPC stores would be cool.

edit: also, yeah I know this topic is kind of old but I'm just getting around to making a forums account and I'm playing a bit of catch-up
