I'm at the point where i've saved the city from ebil and only the dasderly Mick continues to thwart my attempts to being peace, i've got a nifty set up and I find I just keep getting these chips.

What to do with them?

Well I started off buying random things in the auction house, if "Biggest collection of..." ever get's turned on I want to have a head start.

But then I got to thinking, what's needed is a chip sink, somewhere you can go, splurge your chips.

So I came up with a few random ideas;

1) Personal chip sink

There's still the improve your hideout option, upgrade it make it nice, better, recover more hp/pp, have more computer space, random items; The Gym grants +5% chance of +1 to your strength after waking up each night, The really unsafe room grants +5% chance of +1 to your reflexes after you wake up each night, The meditation chamber grants +5% chance of +1 to your intellect after waking up each night.
Mr Coffeetron version X, Automatically adds one coffee of type X to your inventory each night and X can be improved.
I'm sure folks can think of others as well...

2) Class chip sink

Each month The City of Twilight errects a giant plaque thanking the class of hero that has done the most good for the city in donating to the "Help those beat up by bad guys" fund.
Donations are open to all heroes of all levels and just consumes chips like nothing on earth.
At the start of each month the class of hero that has raised the most get's a plaque raised in honour of thier sacrifice and daring do.
They also get +5 to all their stats during that month, +10xp/fight and can stay up an extra 20 minutes every night.
The folks that donated the second largest get a certificate (spelt wrongly) and +1 to all their stats during that month and can stay up an extra 10 minutes every night.
The folks that came third get a mention in the newspaper and +5xp/fight
The folks that come last get a mumbled thanks and the best of wishes for next month.

Yeah needs looked at for balancing and worth of the effects but ... something like that.

Really :?

The class chip sink is a very good idea, but i think that the actions of the heroes should count too. Maybe a special threat each month(special enemies, events, items...) that give extra points in the score of each class.

There could be also rented equipment(maybe of NPCs) that would cost a fortune to keep for some time.

Or contrary to other games where you spend real money for entering in some areas, you would just have to use a million chips...

Personal chip sink idea sounds good, but I have a big problem with the class one.

Which class is the most played right now? Which is the least played? If there were equal amounts of each class it would work, but there aren't. You'd end up improving the most popular class month-after-month.

As you get more and more powerful, the amount of collateral damage you do also increases, thus increasing your insurance premiums... modern world's got no respect for superheroes...

Ya but the general topic is about chip sinks, and the casino IS a chip sink.

There should be a magic sink somewhere that you could pour chips down in exchange for something. For instance stats. Funny, and hilarious!

Yeah, it should be a literal chipsink. Toss chips in, and household appliances somehow squeeze through the faucet.

I like the idea of hideout upgrades beyond the current positronic computer, welding torch, and Lexura Infinides D-8.

This is the one I like the most, and I also like the idea that the "upgrades" do very little but make your hideout more "homey"

What about instead of decreasing rest time at the hideout every 5 levels, you have to buy the decrease in rest time for the chip sink.

Yeah, narritively that makes perfect sense. Drop chips in sink > You rest more quickly. Got it

While I think that many of the ideas above would be fun additions to the game, chip sinks are inherently corrective. Chip sinks serve to remove excess currency from a game's economy, which in turns prevents inflation of the value of the currency. So far, the problem of individual players having more chips than they can handle should be fairly minimal. Lower level characters already express some difficulty in meeting chip requirements for leveling up, which is great because it forces payers to decide between accruing wealth or levels. Similarly, the currently implemented high level zones do not drop chips, which means that powerful characters have to slum in order to get chips, costing them xp. Further, there are rare drops and merit badges associated with areas that do not drop chips, meaning that there may be way more ethereal clubs or pearls of wisdom than chips in the game. As long as the trend of encouraging players to not collect chips continues, there may not be a need for chip sinks at all.

Sorry in advance for the overly long and heavy post.

Quoted for emphasis.

Chip sinks are necessary when inflation gets to a ridiculous point (a la KoL's Black Sunday). Right now, the issue isn't "we can get chips too easily", it's "we have nothing to spend the chips on". Since the game's in development, I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I agree that chip sinks aren't necessary at this point. It would be nice with more ways to spend our chips though, right now we're at the point we're the casino is the only thing puts a dent in our wallets.
